LYDC Mental Health Outreach

Motion Graphic

A student project for UMass Lowell

My class worked with the Lowell Youth Development Collaborative to create short motion graphic videos that would help to promote healthy ways to manage mental health. Our class split into several groups to target students of different ages. My group was assigned to the teen demographic. We decided the best way to leave an impression was to keep it short and sweet. We chose the 1:1 aspect ratio as its common on popular apps/sites that teenagers use like Instagram and Tiktok but can also be ported over to other common aspect ratios like 16:9 without losing clarity of the visuals and message. Mental health is a serious topic and we wanted the colors to reflect that without coming across as too dour or depressing. So we chose a limited palette with a strong contrast between the foreground and the background, the colors themselves being vibrant and pastel like.
